Be Still My Heart

Just bought a new CD today. Usually I buy a new album every second week or so, being a music addict it's something I feel I cant resist... some people are really connected to cigarettes and it work as a drug in their grey normal daylife, for me music is a kind a drug... If I ever die from a music overdose, at least I imagine it's not going to be such a tragic death.

The album I bought is from an Norwegian musician called Silje Nerdgaard. Usually people think I only listen to black metal and hard stuff like that. Usually their wrong really, because I listen to all kinds of music. everything from things like Burzum to Bjork, Tori Amos and Massive Attack. I have this favorite album and song list in my choice page, if anyone are interested.

I think personally music is something that should be chosen after your mood to better enjoy it, at least that's what I do. Aggressive music fits to aggressive feelings while softer feelings fits to softer music types. The only music I don't listen to is extreme commercial music, meaning the music they usually play on MTV, I've mentioned this before, but it's something I like to stress; if you've heard one song on MTV you've usually heard the next one too, even though there are of course some good songs in between. Most of the performers on Mtv are not really musicians and they are not always very talented it seems, but they obviously sell a lot because of all the promotion they get. There are a lot of good musicians that often obviously don't get recognized because of these matters. I have no resentment to any music genre though and I don't really hate MTV either, It's just my opinion and I guess a lot of people would agree with me.

No matter, I'll put up a little spot here to promote a really good Norwegian musician, the album is called "At First Light" and the lyrics are in english. People from other countries than Norway can buy music by Silje Nerdgaard from Amazon. A review of the album says; "It reveals a sonoric soundscape of subtle harmonic textures and rhythms, mixed with seductive melodies, all of which conveys an artistic and personal growth, one in which Silje Nergaard forms her own identity within jazz". You should go and listen (you have to download the mp3) to a little taste of the album, I end this entry with the lyrics to one of the songs on her new album.

Be Still My Heart

My heart is not lonely or broken
Is not of Ice or gold
Nor has my heart ever spoken
To me when a love had grown cold

I felt not the faintest flutter
When you brushed my cheek as you passed
Nor will I willingly clutter
My life with these things that don't last

Be still my heart
My heart be still

If our eyes should meet so be-it
No need to trouble a heart that's hidden
Where no-one can free it
Only to tear it apart

Be still my heart
My heart be still...
