We Are The World

As I promised in an earlier entry I was going to post the songlist of the CD I made for the CD swapping membership called e*Wax. The theme to the CD was country or city names, meaning it had to include in the song name or lyrics. In the beginning I thought it was a bit difficult, but soon I had a lot of song options. I also got a few advices from my readers here, thanks a lot!

I wanted to add something to the CD from this band called London After Midnight, because I really like them, but for some reason I couldn't burn them onto the CD (maybe there are some special copyright tags on them?).

When I were finished burning the CD, the song called Japanese Boy by Aneka came to mind. I loved this song when I were really little, I didn't understand the english words then though. I remember I lay next to my mum in my parents bed and listened to this song on my brother's cassette player. I waited for my mom to get up, as it was early in the morning. Now this song is maybe not very good... today... and I probably only like it because of the memories that are attached to it. I downloaded the song to mp3, but since I had already burned the CD, I didn't add it. Over to the song list.

EWAX v.11 - WE ARE THE WORLD
1. Norwegian Wood - Beatles
2. Rio - Duran Duran
3. Tennessee - Arrested Development
4. Englishman In New York - Sting
5. Russians - The Police
6. I'm Afraid Of Americans - David Bowie & Trent Reznor
7. China Girl - David Bowie
8. Philadephia - Bruce Springsteen
9. Kyoto Song - The Cure
10. Manhattan Martian - Babylon Zoo
11. Killing An Arab - The Electric Hellfire Club
12. Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn
13. Dominion/Mother Russia - Sisters of Mercy
14. Stay-Far Away So Close - U2
15. West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys
16. Dirt - Death In Vegas

Now I will say something about each song.

1. Mum is a fan of the Beatles, I am not (probably because I grew up in the eighties). However I like some songs by the Beatles. Norwegian Wood is not really one of them, but since I live in Norway and this is a country themed CD, I wanted to add it.

2. I'm an old fan of Duran Duran, I dont like the lyrics to Rio all that much (not that it's something wrong with it), but I like the music.

3. The song Tennessee was the first one I came to think of when I was going to make this CD. I have liked Arrested Development since I first heard them.

4 - 5. I'm a big fan of The Police and Sting. Englishman In New York and Russians are two of my favorite songs by them.

6. I really like the song called I'm Afraid Of Americans by David Bowie & Trent Reznor, for many reasons (no offence to the Americans though, as there are a lot of great Americans out there).

7. Always liked David Bowie and the music to his China Girl song is great. The lyrics to it are special, it must be listened to.

8. The 1993 movie called Philadelphia was really great in my opinion, I really like the movies featuring Tom Hanks, I think he's such a great actor. The song to this movie performed by Bruce Springsteen is also really great I think.

9. Being a big fan of The Cure I had to add their nice song called Kyoto Song.

10. Babylon Zoo doesn't seem to give out music anymore (?), but I liked them, I like them still. I wanted to add their song called Is Your Soul For Sale?, because it has London in it's chorus lyrics, but that was another one I didn't manage to burn. So I added their Manhattan Martian, as I like that one too.

11. I dont belive in Killing An Arab, but the song by that name from the The Electric Hellfire Club is really not that bad. Originally it's a song by The Cure, but since I already had a song by them, I wanted to pick this one performed by someone else.

12. I never thought of the great song called Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn, but I was advised by a reader to pick this and I was happy I downloaded it. It's a great ballad song.

13. Always liked Sisters of Mercy and I think their Dominion/Mother Russia is a great song. Again, someone advised me to pick this.

14. The U2 song called Stay-Far Away So Close has a lot of city names in it's lyrics and I just love that song. My favorite part of the song is when Bono sings; -"You stumble out of a hole in the ground, A vampire or a victim, It depend's on who's around". It also has a great video I think, really gloomy, I love the end of it, when Bono runs and fall, gets up, runs and fall again and so on.

15. The West End Girls song is my favorite by the Pet Shop Boys. It has places names in the lyrics.

16. I really like the music by Death In Vegas and their song called Dirt is my favorite. It has a really interesting video to it, it's one of my favorite videos.
