I'm so looking forward to the new version of The Sims 2. It looks so great. The graphics and everything. Ever since I were little, I have loved the idea of decorating my own house. With wallpapers, curtains, furnitures, little things. All twisted into colours, fabrics and shapes. So when I realiced that you could download items from the web and put into your Sims house, I sat and sat and sat and downloaded for hours and hours and hours. Until I was nearly insane with passion for the game.
You dont need to ever leave your room if you have The Sims. You can just let the game characters leave their Sims house and go outside. Take a vacation.
The only really bad thing about the game, is that they have released so many expansion packs. It's bad because if you need to uninstall them, you have to do it in a special order. If you dont, it will clutter up the game, when you try to install it again. Sometimes you cant play it then, sometimes you wont notice until you enter a certain house or the town. And then you must remove it all again. And the downloadable items sometimes also clutter up the game.
Why not just leave the expansion packs out then, you might say. The answer is no. Because the add-ons gives the game more options. The game characters can then go to town, date and etc. But I have decided to not buy any more of them, until the second version of the game is released. Because I assume that you wont be able to use the old add-ons on the new version.
It took me a long time to figure out that the adult characters, could play in a certain bed called the group bed. First of all, because that bed was very expensive. Second of all, because the characters are very strict about what they want to do and with whom they like to do it. So for a long time, I didn't know that they could do that. The playing looks like something kids would do in bed, but if you are an adult, you are probably supposed to see it as some form of sexual behaviour. It's a game for kids to play as well, so I understand why they made it like that.
It's funny to see how the game characters often seem more sentimental and at the same time more shallow, than real human beings. For example, they often tend to cry. Everywhere. They scream and pee on the floor. In front of the bus and suddenly in the middle of their cheerful dancing. When one of my characters was asked by the partner, if it wanted to marry, it just replied; "No, not now when I'm hungry". Then it walked into the kitchen with a big hamburger bubble on it's head.
I always try to get the game characters to do funny things. It's a game after all. I try to make them cheat on their partners or become gay. So far, it haven't worked very well. But in the second version of The Sims, it seems that there will be a lot more fun to attend to.
The Sims characters are nerdy, egoistic, stupid and they all have the same personality, more or less. I have met some of them in the flesh. Outside The Sims houses and outside my own house. They do exist.
One family of mine was really successful. Seemed happy. Until the success grew over their heads and they became parents. Then their inner misery started to show and eventually they looked even younger than their kids. It was time to demolish the family.
Another family didn't have so many things. Not even a toilet. But somehow they managed to work themselves up. Even though they had huge slot machines, in their living room. But when the funny things went away and I got them a toilet, they started to fall apart. So it was time to demolish them too.
Then there were that family that handshaked their own kids and took a bath while their fancy house burned down. I didn't have to demolish them, they did it themselves.
My favorite house had no family at all. I forgot about the family and just decorated it. And when I was done, no one could afford to move in.
Why aren't there any Schizoid personalities in The Sims? Shouldn't there be some? Wouldn't you miss one? In that flat little 3D world.
